The Effects of an Individualized Education for the Military Personnels Diagnosed with Hypertension

Abstract
Purpose : This study was conducted to investigate the effects of an individualized education for the military personnel diagnosed with hypertension. on health compliance, behavior knowledge, and biphysical indices.

Methods : One group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study was designed. The career military personnels who were diagnosed with primary hypertension during annual physical checkup participated in the study. The participants received two sessions of 20 minute individualized education and two 10 minute telephone calls. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, ¥ö2 test, and t-test using the SPSS window version 12.0 program.

Results: This study showed that diastolic blood pressure and systolic blood pressure decreased and the score of self-care and knowledge of hypertension (p<.001) increased after individual education.

Conclusion : In conclusion, an individualized education intervention on hypertension was effective on controlling blood pressure, self-care and knowledge. Therefore, various individualized education programs for hypertension should be developed and operated.
